The Sun

Updated: Dec 25, 2021

“Don’t look at it, it’s too bright for your eyes” Don’t look at what? That’s right never look directly at the Sun. First, there are 4 layers of the Sun. Let’s start from the most outer layer. The crown. The crown is about 3 million degrees! If you manage to go a good enough distance from the Sun you might be able to cook food. I recommend to use the stove instead. The particles can reach Earth. When this happens at the North and South poles. There are auroras because of this. A Corona is basically a solar flare. The carrington event is the biggest Coronal mass ejection. This caused fires to all the telegraph stations. If it happened today. Many more bad things could have happened. Like power failures. Now, let’s talk about the surface (AKA the Photosphere) of the Sun. It’s not as hot as the Sun’s crown(Corona). Only about 10,000 degrees hot. We call the surface of the Sun the radius where you can’t see through it. Oh and by the way, you can learn more on google. So now, we will move on to the convection zone, It takes about 30% of the Sun’s interior. Instead of transferring heat by radiation, it uses plasma or hydrogen and helium ions. Plasma churns through convection. That’s because it is too cold in the connection zone. But, still waaayyyy hotter than Venus’s surface. About 2,000,000 degrees celsius So, don’t go there. Now we’ll talk about photons and their journey zone. A photon is created in the core travels getting colder and colder the further away it is from the core. It takes a long time it collides with a helium or hydrogen ion. It gets absorbed for some time and then get’s emitted. The photons experience a lot of these collisions. It takes over 10,000 years to get to the photosphere of the Sun! Finally, let’s talk about the core. The core is 27 million degrees! This is where nuclear fission happens. And in about five billion years, the Sun will become a red giant and swallow the three closest planets. After about ten billion years, the Sun will become a planetary nebula and after another 10,000 years, the Sun will be a white dwarf. Bye! Stay tuned for my next blog!

Note: A Red Giant is a large star with no core

Bloggers note: All of the temperatures are in fahrenheit.
