Light, the fastest thing in the universe, may not be as fast as you think. There are things quicker than light, some theoretical, some real. So here are three things faster than the speed of light.
Quantum entanglement: In quantum physics ( It is not in regular physics), particles that become entangled can not be described independently. You have to describe them all together. So if you change a particle, the particles it is entangled with will change too. No matter how far. Through entanglement, information is sent practically instantly. So it could be faster than the speed of light! Their properties like momentum are sometimes perfectly correlated. However entangled particles should be measured as a whole. While you wouldn’t be teleporting to work anytime soon, it still is pretty cool that teleportation kind of exists. But only information can be sent this way and this is only in quantum physics.
In different substances: While light is the fastest thing in a vacuum, it could be slower in other substances. Like water, air, and glass. For example, inside water, light is only 75% of its usual speed. And electrons can be faster here. But they won’t beat them where they are best, the vacuum. So this is only a win on a different course
Tachyons: The Tachyon is a particle that is always faster than light. Its existence is only hypothetical and no trustworthy experiment proves its existence. If the Tachyon existed, it could be used for time travel and faster-than-light communication. So it’s used for many sci-fi books for these exact purposes. If Tachyon’s can undeniably exist, this would be a straight win.
While these can exist, tachyons are unconfirmed, particles can’t win in the vacuum, and quantum entanglement is only in quantum physics. But it still is pretty cool. Thanks for reading this
Wow!! very informative. I came to know that there is some substances which is faster than light! I also came to know that light travels much slower in other media than in vacuum
